Specialists

We have access to many of the best Veterinary Specialists across the Lower Mainland and BC. Some of the Specialists we work with on a regular basis include a Board Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist,  Board Certified Veterinary Dental Specialists and an Endoscopy Specialist.  

We also regularly work with Board Certified Internal Medicine Specialists, Ophthalmologists, Surgeons, Neurologists, Radiologists and a Behavioural Specialist at referral practices in BC.  These professionals may come right to our practice. If we can’t solve your pet’s problem, we will find a specialist who can.

Dr. Janet Nieckarz-Loeven (Ultrasounds)

Dr. Janet Nieckarz-Loeven earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1997.  After graduation she completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery, followed by a 3 year residency in radiology at the University of Tennessee.  In 2001, she became a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Radiology  (ACVR) and has been providing board certified radiology and ultrasound services to the Vancouver area since 2001. 

 

Dr. Nieckarz-Loeven was on staff at a local specialty hospital from 2001-2007, and has been providing in house/mobile ultrasounds to the lower mainland  since 2004.  Dr. Nieckarz-Loeven is skilled in all aspects of Veterinary Radiology-- ultrasound, CT, MRI, radiographic interpretation, and nuclear medicine. 

Her primary interests are in performing and interpreting ultrasound exams, performing ultrasound guided interventions (fine needle aspirates and biopsies), radiographic interpretation and working closely with referring veterinarians to provide these additional diagnostics and consultations for  advanced imaging procedures.

Dr. Gorodetsky has spent most of his career as an emergency and critical care veterinarian in a busy 24 hour referral hospital.  He has also developed an interest and considerable experience in various areas of veterinary endoscopy. 

 

He has endoscopically removed hundreds and likely thousands of foreign bodies from stomachs, esophagi, small and large intestines, noses, lungs, vaginas, urethras and ears. All this while avoiding open surgery as well as pain, longer recovery and increased frequency of post-surgical complications.

 

Dr. Gorodetsky completed his pre-veterinary studies at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the spring of 1999. His areas of medical interest include endoscopy, surgery and radiology.
 

Over the past 10-12 years he has been spending more and more time on the road performing endoscopic procedures in about 300 clinics and Point Grey Veterinary Hospital is one of them.

Dr. Mark Smith completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Guelph. He graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 1992 and spent six years in small animal general practice.

 

He completed a one year small animal medicine and surgery internship at OVC and a one year surgery internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Orlando, Florida.  In 2003, he then completed a three year small animal surgery residency where he received a Masters in Veterinary Science at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatchewan.

 

Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons was attained after a rigorous examination process. He previously operated at Canada West Veterinary Specialists in Vancouver. Currently Mark provides a mobile surgical service in the lower mainland.

 

We are proud to have Dr. Smith perform TPLO surgeries for cruciate ligament repair and patella surgeries here at Point Grey Veterinary Hospital on a regular basis for our patients in need.  Dr. Smith has also started to perform for us other orthopedic procedures and advanced soft tissue surgeries such as Ear Canal Ablations.
